MANAGING PRINCIPAL

Raymond Drzymala

Ray Drzymala took a circuitous route to architectural practice management, but once he discovered his natural ability to lead others and businesses to success, he never looked back. For more than a decade, Ray has been making a measurable difference in the business of healthcare architecture. As Managing Principal for Altus, Ray’s day-to-day includes managing the Denver office, responding to the needs of Altus clients across the nation, identifying business development opportunities and providing sound strategy and leadership for the entire organization.

While serving on the production line of a pineapple factory, Ray learned the value of hard work, the importance of having a sharp knife, and an even sharper sense of humor.

After receiving a B.S. from the University of Colorado, Boulder he moved to Maui where he met his wife Deborah. Eventually, Ray’s creative leanings took him to New York City to study and work in the field of fashion design. While working full-time during the day, he obtained a second degree in Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T) Moving back to Hawaii to be with family, he found himself in the Technology Industry working at Spirent Communications. In this role, his work took him around the world, opening offices in Hong Kong, Beijing, and Paris. SENIOR PROJECT MANAGER

Dwayne Meyer

AIA, NCARB

Dwayne Meyer spent many days as a child in the sandbox. He and his two older brothers would create sheds from scrap lumber and boards to house their toy farm implements, each staking out a corner of the expansive, sandy area where they would pass the time. The boys’ “farms” were connected by roads,  bridges and culverts. Ponds and reservoirs were added via the garden hose.

Dwayne didn’t know it at the time, but that early “rural planning experience” via the sandbox, and his ability to appreciate and adapt to any circumstance, led to his interest in a career in architecture.  Today, with more than 20 years of healthcare architecture experience to his credit, Dwayne fills an essential role as a Senior Project Manager for the Altus team. From small-renovations and facility upgrades to large-scale health care system planning and design, Dwayne brings his tenacious approach to “getting the job done right” to every project he tackles.

DESIGN LEADER

Scott Nordstrom

AIA, LEED AP

Scott Nordstrom has extensive experience in planning, designing and illustrating a wide variety of project types including site analysis and layouts, healthcare facilities, retail, schools and renovations. He designs and illustrates the project site, floor plans, exterior and interior elevations in a cohesive way that is easily understood and appreciated by every client. Scott is an excellent communicator and project leader; his work allows project owners to easily visualize concepts, enabling them to make quicker decisions and keep projects moving forward. He is able to tap into both analytical and artistic skill sets; Scott is among the few experienced architects who still create hand-drawn, watercolor renderings to help clients visualize design concepts.

Scott has always enjoyed creating and building and was able to learn on the job by helping his father with construction projects.  He is known for being generous with his time both on and off the job. Most recently, Scott designed and built a rustic-themed wedding barn for his daughter’s wedding and when he isn’t working at Altus or volunteering his time at church or in the community, he is generally involved in a variety of projects for the a seasonal tree farm that has been in his family for generations. Scott is a volunteer for the Open Door Mission, assists with Omaha Rapid Response-Disaster Relief, and has spoken (through a signer) at the Iowa School for the Deaf and local Community Colleges about the architectural profession and processes.

Few know it, but Doug was a power lifter in college (touting a personal best bench press of 435 lbs.) and found inspiration from Christian power lifter, Paul Anderson. Lucky for Altus and our clients, Doug ended up taking the architecture route. Today, he channels that strength and athletic talent into winning designs and plans for our clients. Kyle Adamson

PROJECT MANAGER

Kyle Adamson

AIA

Kyle Adamson has more than 20 years of architectural design experience. A decade of that time was spent focused exclusively on healthcare projects. He has played an instrumental role in planning and designing functional healthcare projects ranging from acute inpatient facilities, hospital renovations, new ground-up hospitals, outpatient clinics and medical office buildings.

Kyle’s earliest aspirations were to be a veterinarian or a Chicago Bears football player. His first real job was selling Cutco Knives (and he’s still pretty sharp!). These dreams and hands-on experiences added flavor to Kyle’s path toward becoming a licensed architect; this achievement is something he is most proud of today.

When he isn’t at work, Kyle focuses on enjoying family time, cooking, gardening, and golf. Rumor has it that Kyle hasn’t completely given up on his dream to participate in professional sports. He is a “pretty good” golfer and would not turn down the chance to play on the pro circuit if he had the chance one day.

PROJECT ARCHITECT

Michelle Draschil

AIA, LEED AP, BD+C, CDT

Michelle has been working in healthcare architecture since 2013 and has a passion for combining the disciplines of architecture and kinesiology as a means to link the human experience with perception and movement through space. It is from this lens that Michelle approaches every design project.

By carefully analyzing the way the human body moves within and through space, Michelle is able to directly translate those insights to bring innovative and functional plans to life for her healthcare clients. The resulting spaces are not only more appealing visually, but also created for the maximum efficiency and flow required by today’s healthcare institutions.

When she isn’t creating amazing healthcare spaces, Michelle likes to recharge by hiking and photographing the Colorado landscape, and camping and biking with her husband. Her latest creative hobby involves exploring nature via a brush and acrylic paint.

PROJECT COORDINATOR

Watchara Umboontham

As a child growing up in Thailand, Watchara Umboontham wanted to be a teacher. She loved the kindness and patience she was shown by her first-grade teacher and aspired to do the same for others someday. She had other strong female role models along the way, including her mother, who Watchara said “taught her to be strong.” Those traits proved useful when she moved to the U.S. at age 16. Coming to a new country and learning a new language was just one more challenge for Watchara, who has since gained her BS in Architecture degree from the University of Oklahoma-Norman. Walking across the stage to receive her diploma was one of her proudest moments.

Watchara and her family, which includes a husband and two young children, enjoy the Colorado lifestyle. Spending time in the outdoors, going on nature walks and enjoying the beautiful scenery are favorite pastimes. She also likes to watch baking shows, especially during the holiday season.

In her role as Project Coordinator for Altus, Watchara has every opportunity not only to share her kindness and patience, but also her stellar skills as a seasoned architect. She has been working in architecture for more than 12 years; seven of those years included work specific to the healthcare industry.

Yang is a skilled architect with broad expertise ranging from pre-planning and design to project management and construction documentation. She is an expert at hand drawing sketches as well as crafting high-tech, 3D project renderings.

When she isn’t working, Yang enjoys cooking, video gaming, video editing, audio editing and reading. It comes as no surprise, that Yang would love to travel more if given the opportunity.

INTERIOR DESIGNER

Eva Krueger

NCIDQ

Eva Krueger is inspired by finding innovative solutions to design challenges and her role as an interior designer for Altus allows her to do just that. While obtaining her degree from Kansas State University, Eva added a design focus on gerontology. This has provided excellent perspective when crafting solutions for Altus healthcare projects of all kinds.

Eva’s first job was babysitting, but once she was old enough to drive, she graduated to the role of sandwich designer at Blimpie. To this day, we hear that Eva can make a mean sandwich. As a child, she aspired to be an opera singer, although this was likely motivated by her desire to annoy her brothers. Today, Eva loves teaching, learning and continuing to grow, so we won’t rule out a future career at the Metropolitan Opera just yet.

When she isn’t working to finding purposeful and beautiful interior solutions for Altus Architectural Studios’ clients, she can be found with her husband and two active boys working on their renovated 1890’s Victorian home.

DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTING

Gabriela Wulff-Marcano

Gabriela Wulff-Marcano’s  accounting career began quite early – at age five, in fact. At this young age, Gabi received a typewriter from her father as a gift and, combined with the 10-key adding machine he had on his desk, Gabi would play “office” day in and day out. By age seven, she received yet another present from her father – her own electric cash register. In addition to occupying her time, these gifts were the foundations for what would become a life-long passion for and pursuit of numbers, as well as a career in accounting.

Gabi was born in and grew up in Venezuela; an idyllic upbringing and her spunky personality blend nicely to foster the outgoing, adventurous spirit that is evident the very first time you meet Gabi. As the youngest of eight, she and her siblings (four sisters and three brothers) spent many summers at Puerto La Cruz, one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean. While in college, she worked as a receptionist at one of the largest hospitals in Caracas. Today, she is proud to live and work in the United States where “total freedom” is something she treasures and does not take for granted.

The same passion she brings to her role as Altus’ Director of Accounting is also found in her personal life. Along with her husband Aquiles, daughter Clarisa and their dog Chico, Gabi enjoys exploring  – mountains, rivers, beaches or deserted islands – they are always ready to embark on another adventure together.

DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

Jill Reeves

MHA

Jill Reeves has over 30 years of experience in healthcare strategic marketing. With a strong background in traditional marketing practice, she has also worked extensively in the fields of market research, statistical analysis and healthcare interactive/digital marketing. Before joining Altus, Jill was marketing manager for a diagnostic medical equipment distributor, supported a SaaS-based healthcare IT startup, and spent more than 20 years as a communications director for a healthcare marketing research firm.

Jill learned the value of a hard day’s work at a very young age. Almost before she could walk, she could be found washing windshields at her Dad’s Mobil gas station along old Highway 34. Payment included a cold bottle of Coca-Cola from the machine and a handful of peanuts from the coin-operated dispenser. Jill’s love of storytelling (and truth be told, her colorful vocabulary) can be directly attributed to those early days at the gas station.

One of Jill’s biggest motivators is being able to help others, and her job at Altus allows her to do just that. In addition to her full-time role with Altus, Jill is an adjunct professor of healthcare marketing, teaching both undergraduate and MBA-level courses to health professionals at Nebraska Methodist College.
