Critical Access  /  Hospitals  /  Outpatient/Clinics   /  Shenandoah Medical Center – Addition and Renovation

Altus contributed to the master planning of Shenandoah Medical Center to maximize operational efficiency, provide the environment to help patients heal quickly, stand as a beacon in the community, & provide for a smooth running operation during construction.  Altus team members worked with key stakeholders, users, and community members to develop multiple master plan options for the critical access hospital.   SMC is actively working to implement the master plan with the help of the Altus team.  Currently under construction, the new project will add a 2 story 40,000 sf MOB attached to the existing clinic on the south side of the existing building.  The new clinic addition will house 21 clinic providers, four visiting specialty clinics, one walk-in clinic, & 4 mental health offices, requiring a total of 78 exam rooms.  The new building will also allow a new central registration department for the entire facility to be created.  The vacated clinic space will be remodeled as the new surgery department with two operating rooms capable of any type of procedure.   Pre-op / recovery rooms / bays will be provided to free up existing patient rooms that are currently used for that purpose.  A new central waiting space will allow a common observed area for visitors & is centrally located within the facility.  The emergency department will also expand to add adequately sized check-in areas, exam rooms & support space.  A new LDRP room is also planned for a future phase along with a refresh of the 2 existing LDRP rooms.  The labor/delivery/recovery (LDR) rooms & patient rooms will be remodeled with new finishes.  The respiratory therapy area & lab will also be relocated as part of the project to make room for the expanded emergency & surgery departments.
