Bellevue, NE
A major goal on this project was to create a building that enhances learning about the environment around us while teaching people about stewardship. The building first and foremost emphasizes the outdoor environment by embracing visitors and extending their experience into the forest beyond.
The buildings functional program called for housing different activities in one building while minimizing the impact on the natural surroundings adjacent. These functions provided for included 2 educational exhibit areas, outdoors entertainment plazas and amphitheater, entry learning pond, Eco-Institute preschool, gift shop, rental facilities, administrative and staff offices, and animal care facilities. From the start the nature center was envisioned as a green building.
